Calculating the necessary plasterboard: a real headache?

Measure the areas to be treated, calculate the quantities of plasterboard, insulation, or metal tracks needed... Have we lost you already? Don't panic! We'll help you calculate the plasterboard you need for your projects.

What is plasterboard?

Plasterboard is one of the most used materials for interior finishing, for about ten years now. Its popularity is easily explained: it represents a solution Fast, easy, economical and above all very effective due to its high resistance. Plasterboard panels are used as partition walls and as wall cladding, or as false ceilings or sloped ceilings. Composed of plaster and cardboard, they are installed against metal studs to receive an insulating material for thermal and acoustic insulation.

There are different types of plasterboard, which meet different needs:

  1. Thermal lining (gray): It is responsible for the thermal insulation of a room by regulating the temperature.
  2. Soundproofing It allows for the noise to be halved from one room to another.
  3. The water-repellent board (vert): Moisture-resistant, it ensures the waterproofing of walls in humid rooms like the bathroom.
  4. placoActiv'Air (blanc): It eliminates pollutants present in the air. It is more recommended for the bedrooms of sensitive individuals.
  5. The plates fireproofedFire-resistant, they are generally used in kitchens.
  6. The flexible plate They are used for hard-to-reach areas, such as attics.

The panels are generally mounted using metal rails (metal framing) and studs, which allow for very straight walls.

How to calculate the amount of plasterboard you need for your project?

That's it, you've made up your mind and chosen the different types of plaques you wanted to use. Now, you need to focus on estimating the quantities needed. Here's how to proceed:

Measure the dimensions of the surface you want to cover with plasterboard. This could be a wall, a partition, or a false ceiling. You'll get the surface area in m²:

Wall height x Wall length

Measure the dimensions of the plates you wish to apply. You will get the dimensions in m2 of plasterboard:

Plate height x Plate length

Finally, divide the wall's surface area by the tiles' surface area. This will give you the number of tiles needed:

Wall surface/Plate surface

It is wiser to add a percentage of the total number of plates to the final result to anticipate losses and possible errors.

To this, you will need to add the quantities of elements necessary for plasterboard installation, such as rails, studs, connectors, as well as consumables. To obtain the correct quantities, you can create a diagram with the previously taken measurements.

MeasureAll, the calculation tool for plasterboard installers

The Measureall application was designed by a building professional to best meet the needs of Plasterers

The application guides you through’carrying out your plans, without calculation errors and with a high precision. It allows you to measure from a PDF plan, the surfaces ceilings, partitions, but also walls. The application then allows for to estimate the quantities of insulation, plaster, drywall, bricks, metal studs and tracks, necessary for the previously registered surfaces.

With her, you will save precious time for taking your measurements, then for preparing your quotes and orders.

MeasureAll is available directly from your smartphone, Wherever you are, on your construction site or in the office, and even without an internet connection. No more carrying your paper plans or your set square! The app that leaves you unburdened!

The application lists your various measurements in a folder, in just a few moments. You can then use them to establish your quotes, adapted according to the size and nature of the surfaces to be treated, pass Your orders or simply use them on your construction sites. You will then quickly get a real overview of the necessary materials and the cost of your work, hassle-free!
